Picture thread...

Here's a link to a picture thread on Mountain Goats held at the forums of MTBR.com. There may be quite a few juicy pics there for you. It gets updated from time to time as owners add bike pics. To see all the images I guess you'll have to become a member at the site, if you aren't already. It's a quick, painless process.

Goat Specs...

Ever wondered how your Goat was probably originally equipped? Jeff Archer has put together this excellent spreadsheet at the MOMBAT site

MOMBAT

Here's a link to the Museum of Mountain Bike Art and Technology (MOMBAT).
Jeff Archer and the guys run First Flight Bikes, 216 S. Center St., Statesville, NC 28677, a literal museum of Mountain Bikes. One of the coolest Bike Shops in the USA. Hundreds of classic Mountain Bikes of all eras line the walls and are on display. Unique bikes seem commonplace there. It's well worth browsing the MOMBAT site.

Get yourself a new Mountain Goat...

First Flight Bikes is accepting orders for Mountain Goats made using new materials, new technologies, and also in 29-er size !!
The original painter of Mountain Goats, Russ Pickett, still custom paints Goats to this day.

Route 66...the most expensive hybrid ever ???

Well, these were relatively rare. I don't remember ever seeing one in the flesh. The paint job seems very similar to my Fuso MTB. The top few pics on this page are of my bike, though the page belongs to Dave Moulton.

Trials Bike...Bicycle Guide 1986

I am not into Trials, beyond marveling at what a competent trials rider can do on a bicycle, but I thought you might want to take a look at Mountain Goat's contribution to frame design in this realm circa 1986.

Goat Catalog.......circa 1984

From way back in the day. This Catalog is postmarked 1984.
Phil Wood Hubs, Mathauser finned brake pads,Bi-plane fork crown, Mountain Goat's own stem, Silca pump, TA cranks, it didn't get any better than this!
Note the old-style Goat logo on the top of the down tube, and they hadn't developed the "loose leaf binder" to clamp the seatpost yet. No fancy cast Goat head badges yet either.

"Deluxe" review...1990, Mountain and City Biking

Just gorgeous paint on this "deluxe". Very period correct: Ground Control tires, flat pedals, clips and straps. Nice beard and hairy legs!!
Sorry about the image quality, it came from a photocopy.

Decipher your serial number...

Find it under the Bottom Bracket. It might be filled in with some paint ;-(
Anyway, here's a copy of an email I got from Jeff himself telling you how to tell what it means.

My other blog...

My other blog is also (somewhat) bicycle related. Here's the link.

Frame specifications......circa 1993

Keep in mind that a "deluxe" was a custom build, and didn't necessarily follow the exact specs listed here.
My Starry-Night 1991 "deluxe" was built with an oval top-tube and a round down-tube, and some of the other tubing was chosen for beefiness as I wanted a bike that was tough enough for fully-loaded touring.

Goat Accessories......circa 1993

Get these items to finish building your new Goat, or just to pose with ;-)

The Builders........circa 1990

Several years ago I lucked out and bought a "deluxe" frame-set and extra parts on Ebay. It came with this neat picture of the builders of Goats circa 1990. On the rear were written the details of my frame-set.
Weird thing is though, that frame-set was painted camo, not yellow/black fade.

My "deluxe's".......links

1991 deluxe.

1990 Camo "deluxe".

1985 candy-red "deluxe".

Goat Brochure scans....1990

I received this brochure with my order of my "deluxe" in 1991. Brochure dates to 1990.
Amazing workmanship and paint !!!
